Century homes in Galt, Preston and Hespeler

The older stone and brick homes near the Grand River in Galt and through the Preston and Hespeler cores are the most interesting work we do and the least suited to a fixed price list. Walls are not plumb, floors are not level, trim profiles were run on site a hundred years ago, and mortar joints in the local limestone and brick need repointing with a mix soft enough not to damage the stone around it. Hard modern mortar on a soft century wall does real damage over a few winters, which is why we quote these properly after seeing them rather than guessing over the phone.

Newer Cambridge subdivisions

Clemens Mill, Moffat Creek, Christopher Champlain, Saginaw and the newer developments off Franklin Boulevard and Can-Amera Parkway are a different job entirely. These houses are square and sound, so the work is finishing and upgrading: basement trim and shelving, TV mounting, closet systems, kitchen and bathroom refreshes, and deck and fence repair as the first generation of these builds reaches fifteen or twenty years old. That is exactly the age where pressure-treated decks start needing boards replaced and fence posts start leaning.

Exterior work along the rivers

Properties near the Grand and the Speed see more moisture and more freeze-thaw movement than most of the region, and it shows up as spalled concrete, open mortar joints, heaved walkway slabs and gutters that cannot cope with the volume. Autumn gutter clearing matters more here than almost anywhere else we work, because the tree cover through West Galt and the older Preston and Hespeler streets is heavy and the eaves fill fast. Getting that done late in the season, once the leaves are actually down, is worth more than doing it twice too early.

Getting around Cambridge

We cover all three cores and everything between them: Galt and Dickson Hill, West Galt across the river, Preston and Blair, Hespeler Village up at the north end, and the subdivisions along Franklin and Can-Amera. The older streets in Galt and Hespeler are narrow with limited parking, so as with Kitchener, let us know in advance if there is no driveway. Because Cambridge is our longest run, we do try to group bookings, which is why booking a week ahead usually gets you a better slot and a better price than a same-day call.
